CBP to Pursue RLF for 06 Entries Sooner Than Expected
Good news came to Foreign-Trade Zone (FTZ) service providers and operators at the recent API Conference. US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced that it is investigating the possibility of implementing Remote Location Filing (RLF) for 06 entries prior to the entries being included in ACE.
Service providers filing FTZ entry summaries (06 entries) have long desired to file remotely. This sentiment is shared by importers operating multiple FTZs from a central location who want to file all 06 entries from that one location, regardless of zone operation.
CBP has stated that it is interested in expanding RLF capability beyond the currently available 01 and 11 filings as entry types are added to ACE. For a while, it seemed that the timing of RLF filing for FTZ entries was far away, since the inclusion for type 06 entries in ACE has yet to be scheduled. The announcement from CBP makes it sound as though RLF will be possible for these filers sooner. It does, however, seem like this privilege will be extended only to those zones filing electronic admissions (e214s), and not to zones doing manual CBP Form 214 submissions.
To submit electronic data to CBP, importers must use the right format and have a direct connection to CBP. Integration Point ABI provides the capability to file CBP Forms 3461-06 and 7501-06 electronically. Also provided is the capability to electronically pay the duty obligations of these filings and the processing of the CBP statements accordingly. By integrating with Integration Point FTZ and filing directly with CBP, the extra step of data integration with another software is no longer necessary.
