The European Commission (EC) has been working on a plan regarding the Generalized System of Preferences or GSP. According to the EC website, a plan has been put forward and agreed upon for the continuation of the existing system until the end of 2013, to avoid the lapse that took place in the United States when that GSP expired before the US Congress approved the renewal. With this continuation, the European GSP will now expire on December 31, 2013 with the new changes to go into force on January 1, 2014.
US Customs & Border Protection (CBP) issued a CSMS message (#12-000154) with instructions for those companies that wish to file Colombia Free Trade Act claim via the Automated Commercial Environment (ACS) on May 15th when the FTA goes into force.

On February 29, 2012, Integration Point hosted a webcast on Global Sourcing Best Practices – How Trade Compliance & Procurement Can Accomplish More Together. During this webcast, the presenters – Darren Maynard with DPM Consulting and Karen Lobdell with Integration Point – discussed improving the relationship between Compliance and Procurement. US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is holding open registration for its 2012 West Coast Trade Symposium. The theme of this year’s symposium is “Transforming Trade for a Stronger Economy.” The symposium will be held on May 10, 2012 in Long Beach, California. Registration is now open but will close on April 23, 2012.
